Planning for pregnancy
If you’re considering becoming pregnant, your team member can help you prepare for a healthy pregnancy by:
- Reviewing your contraception usage or potential fertility issues

- Fertility issues
If you’re having problems becoming pregnant for six months to a year, your team member might recommend testing or provide medication to stimulate ovulation. For larger infertility issues, they may refer you to an expert.
During pregnancy
As your trusted partner during your pregnancy, your team member provides information on your and what to expect throughout the process. She also ensures you receive any necessary vaccinations and notes any risk factors associated with your pregnancy.
What makes a pregnancy high-risk?
A pregnancy is high-risk if your health or that of your baby is in danger. Pregnancies can be high-risk from the beginning or become high-risk over time. Factors that can produce a high-risk pregnancy include:
- Carrying multiple babies
- Being a teenager or over 35
- Being underweight, overweight, or obese
- Having health conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes
Whether you have a healthy pregnancy or one that’s high-risk, your MyDoc Women’s Health Specialists provider monitors your pregnancy to prepare you for a safe and healthy delivery.
How is my pregnancy monitored?
Once you’re pregnant, your first obstetrics appointment is typically the most thorough. During your first visit, your team member conducts a comprehensive physical exam including:
- Blood work
- Pap smears
- Pelvic exam
- STD testing
After your first appointment, your team member typically recommends regular monthly appointments until you reach 28 weeks. At that time, your visits occur every two weeks until your pregnancy reaches 36 weeks. Then, they usually request weekly appointments until you deliver your baby.
At your appointments, your team member measures your:
- Blood pressure and weight
- Baby’s growth based on your uterus size
- Urine for signs of gestational diabetes
- Ankles for signs of swelling
- You can expect to have at least one ultrasound while you’re pregnant.
