Delivery Q & A
What is prenatal care?
Prenatal care is specialized healthcare that monitors you and your baby during the nine months of your pregnancy. Starting care early and coming in to see the team at MyDoc Women's Health Specialists as scheduled ensures a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery.
How often do I need to see the OB/GYN during pregnancy?
How often you come in for prenatal care depends on where you are during your pregnancy and your specific health needs.
General recommendations for prenatal visits:
- Weeks four to 28: once a month
- Weeks 29 to 36: twice a month
- Weeks 36 to birth: once a week
At each visit, the women’s health specialist checks your weight and blood pressure and measures the circumference of your abdomen to monitor your baby’s growth.
What is a high-risk pregnancy?
If the team has concerns about your health or the health of your baby, you may be considered a high-risk pregnancy.
Common reasons for a high-risk pregnancy include:
- Your age, teen or over age 35
- Health condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure
- Overweight or underweight
- Carrying multiples
The team at MyDoc Women’s Health Specialists have years of experience and can help you, and your baby, have a healthy and happy pregnancy.

The team may recommend testing and provide medication to improve ovulation. If you’re still experiencing infertility, the team may refer you to an infertility expert.
